Toyota GR Supra MG1 ECU Unlock – Now Available In-House at MTechTuning

MTechTuning can now carry out supported MG1 ECU unlocks in-house, opening up tuning options for a range of newer BMW models and the Toyota GR Supra.
Our first MG1 unlock was recently completed on a 73-plate Toyota GR Supra, with the entire unlock process carried out by MTechTuning before the customer chose to use MHD for their tuning.
Toyota GR Supra MG1 ECU Unlock
Many newer BMW and Toyota GR Supra models use Bosch MG1 engine control units that require an ECU unlock before tuning software can be written.
Previously, unlocking certain MG1 ECUs could involve sending the ECU away to a third party, potentially leaving the vehicle off the road while the process was completed.
For supported ECUs, MTechTuning can now complete the MG1 unlock directly in-house, significantly simplifying the process.
Our MG1 Unlock Process
For this 73-plate Toyota GR Supra, we completed:
- Full vehicle diagnostics and general health check
- MG1 ECU type and compatibility verification via OBD
- ECU removal and bench connection
- MG1 bench unlock
- ECU refitted to the vehicle
- Final OBD verification confirming the ECU was successfully unlocked and ready for tuning
This gives us the opportunity to check the vehicle and ECU both before and after the unlock process.
Ready for MHD Tuning
Following the unlock, the owner of this Toyota GR Supra chose to use MHD for the vehicle's tuning.
MTechTuning did not install or supply the MHD software on this particular vehicle. Our role was to carry out the MG1 ECU unlock and verify that the ECU was successfully unlocked and ready for the customer's chosen tuning solution.
This makes our unlock service suitable for customers who require an MG1 ECU unlock before using a compatible tuning platform, as well as customers looking to have their vehicle tuned through MTechTuning.
BMW & Toyota Supra MG1 Unlocking
The Toyota GR Supra shares significant powertrain technology with BMW, including the B58 engine and Bosch MG1 engine management found across a number of modern performance models.
Our new in-house capability allows us to support compatible BMW MG1 and MD1 ECUs, as well as supported Toyota GR Supra applications.
Compatibility depends on the specific vehicle, ECU type and software version, so we always recommend checking the vehicle before booking.
No Mail-In ECU Required
One of the biggest advantages of our new MG1 unlocking capability is that supported ECUs do not need to be mailed away for unlocking.
The ECU can be removed, unlocked on the bench, refitted and verified by MTechTuning as part of the same process.
This means less downtime and keeps the complete unlock procedure with us from initial diagnostics through to final verification.
