BMW MG1 and MD1 ECU unlock, on site

Newer BMWs leave the factory with ECUs that are locked against tuning. We unlock them at your home or workplace, through the OBD port, on the same day. No ECU removal, and nothing sent away.

Which BMWs need unlocking

BMWs built after June 2020 with Bosch MG1 petrol or MD1 diesel ECUs have software protection that stops normal diagnostic-port tuning. That covers many later F-series and most G-series models, including B48 and B58 petrol and B47 and B57 diesel engines.

Whether a particular car needs unlocking depends on its ECU and software version, not just its age, so we confirm it from the registration and an ECU read before quoting.

What the unlock allows

Once the ECU is unlocked, the car can be tuned in the same way as earlier models.

How it works on the day

We scan the car for faults and connect a stabilised power supply before any programming. We then identify the ECU, carry out the unlock through the OBD port, save the original software where possible and either write your tune or hand the car back ready for your own app.

A final diagnostic check confirms everything is working as it should. Most unlocks are done in a single visit.

Not local? Post your ECU to us

If you are outside our mobile area, you can send the ECU to us instead. We unlock it on the bench with a short turnaround at a fair price, then send it straight back, so you can tune it with another tuner or a third-party app such as MHD, or have us tune it.
