A major update has just landed for BMW tuning.



MTechTuning can now offer on-site unlocking for supported Bosch MG1 and MD1 ECUs, opening up tuning options for a wide range of newer BMW models that were previously locked from normal programming.

Until now, many of these vehicles required the ECU to be removed and sent away for unlocking before any performance software could be installed. This meant additional downtime, extra logistics and, in many cases, leaving the vehicle unusable while the ECU was away.

That process is no longer necessary for supported ECUs.

What does the new BMW ECU unlock mean?

BMW introduced additional security to many Bosch MG1 and MD1 engine control units, preventing them from being tuned through conventional methods.

With the latest unlocking solution now available, we can carry out the required ECU unlock at the vehicle, before proceeding with the calibration.

Which BMWs can now be tuned?

The update covers a range of newer BMW models equipped with supported Bosch MG1 and MD1 ECUs, including vehicles using many of BMW's modern petrol and diesel engines.

This includes applications across engines such as the B48, B58 and later-generation BMW diesel platforms, although compatibility ultimately depends on the exact ECU fitted to the vehicle and its software version.

Stage 1 & Stage 2 BMW Tuning

Once the ECU has been successfully unlocked, we can install our professionally developed performance calibration.

Depending on the vehicle and its modifications, this can include Stage 1 or Stage 2 ECU software, with the calibration designed to improve power, torque, throttle response and overall drivability while maintaining the characteristics expected from the vehicle.

Gearbox tuning can also be carried out on supported BMW transmissions, allowing the engine and transmission software to work together for a more complete package.

As with every vehicle we tune, the car is checked with professional diagnostic equipment before programming, and the original ECU software is securely backed up.
