BMW 520d B47 Stage 1 & Bench ECU Unlock

This BMW 520d with the B47 2.0 diesel went from 190hp and 400Nm to 220hp and 480Nm with our Stage 1 calibration, after a bench ECU unlock.

Torque where you use it

The calibration focuses on low and mid-range torque, sharper throttle response and smoother, more progressive power, ideal for daily driving and long motorway trips, while staying well within safe tolerances.

Bench ECU unlock

The ECU needed a bench unlock before tuning to allow full access for a bespoke calibration. Once unlocked, it was programmed and refitted with software tailored to the car.

The results

This BMW 520d B47 now makes 220hp, up from 190hp as standard: 30hp more, an increase of around 16%.

Torque rose from 400Nm to 480Nm (+80Nm), which is what you feel most in everyday driving: stronger pull from low revs and easier overtaking.

What the work involved

Its Bosch ECU was locked against tuning, so the first step was to unlock it. The original software was saved before any changes were made.

Stage 1 is calibrated for a car with standard hardware. By refining boost, fuelling, timing and torque requests within the engine's safe limits, it delivers stronger, smoother acceleration and sharper throttle response.
