The results

From 340hp as standard to 405hp, the BMW 540i gained 65hp, roughly 19% more power.

Torque rose from 450Nm to 590Nm (+140Nm), which is what you feel most in everyday driving: stronger pull from low revs and easier overtaking.

What the work involved

This was a Stage 1 calibration: no hardware changes, just carefully refined engine software. Boost, fuelling, timing and torque limits are adjusted within safe margins for more usable performance every day.

The gearbox was tuned as well. A gearbox calibration raises the transmission's torque limits to suit the engine and can sharpen shifts and response, so both work together as one package.
